Before this place became huge department store in the center of the city in the area of Ratchaprasong, this land was the location of Phetchabun Palace, resident of Prince Chudadhuj Dharadilok, Prince of Phetchabun, which is the son of King Rama V. In the first period this place was open as a department store, it was named World Trade Center. The name was then changed later on to Central World in B.E. 2550. Together with that, it is also the place that combines 2 other department stores that only have 1 branch in Thailand, Zen and Isetan from Japan.
Central World Department Store started operating since B.E. 2532 and was the rendezvous for all genders and ages. This is because there are restaurants of many choices such as Thai, Chinese, Western, Japanese or Korean foods. Apart from being a department store, Central World also has the sacredness that most Thai people come to pay respect to the gods they believe. This is because at the Ratchaprasong Intersection, there is a believe that there is a mystery fen shui of many important gods. Thus, this place is then the location of many gods’ shrine to make their votive offerings. In front of Central World is where Trimurat and Ganesha enshrined. On the side of Erawan Hotel is the location of Brahma Shrine and across the roof top of Gaysorn Plaza also is the location of Maha Laksamee Shrine. It was a belief that this is the power beam where it reduces the location’s violence and turn negative force to positive force.
